Make Your Own Light Box

I'm not a professional photographer by any means, so I look for all the help I can get when it comes to taking pictures for the Craft Anyway blog and my Etsy shop. Luckily, my father has a Nikon D50 that he is more than willing to share, which helps a ton, but I still don't know how to use all of the fancy features. So when I found this tutorial by The Scrap Shoppe on how to make a light box, I had to give it a try.

So, I turned Kaeleigh's Hello Kitty tricycle box...

Into this!

And since the pictures I take for my Etsy shop are mostly of headbands, I needed a way to display them so that they didn't keep rolling around in the box so that I couldn't get a good angle on them. So I also made this...

It's just a partial roll of paper towels wrapped in white fabric left from the light box and secured with straight pins. Genius, I know.

I'm still not a professional photographer, but that's okay because I leave the real photography to my best friend, Mallory, and her husband, Josh, over at J&M Expressions (yes, that was totally a name drop). I do, however, think my pictures are looking much better now...

Craft Anyway Giveaway at Oopsey Daisy

There are two reasons you should click on this link for today's Oopsey Daisy blog post...

Okay, there are probably WAY more than two reasons, but I'm only going to mention two.

1.) Because Alison, the "Queen of Oopsey Daisies," is super talented.

That's her. And just look but a few of the super crafty things she comes up with!

Photo Tile Coasters using Resin

Christmas Countdown Tree

Tuxedo Onesie

Plus, she hosted a wonderful series called Summer Camp and creates the most brilliant Mommy School packets to use with your pre-schoolers!

And 2.) Because she's hosting a Craft Anyway Etsy Shop Giveaway! That's right. One lucky winner will receive three, yes THREE, custom hairpieces! You could win something like this...

or this...

or this...

or something completely different! The possibilities are endless, but you've got to go here to enter!

Good luck!

A Birthday Dress

Happy 5th Birthday to my niece, Julia!

It's not actually her birthday, yet, but she celebrated this past weekend with a Lalaloopsy themed party. (If you've never heard of the Lalaloopsy Dolls then you should check out their website. They're these super adorable rag dolls that are said to have "come to live when their last stitch was sewn.")

ANYWAY, this was her gift.

Well, BEFORE she opened it anyway. I made the cute ribbon using gathered ribbon left over from her actual gift and the paper bow by following this tutorial over at Minimoz. Super cute, right?

When she opened the box she would find THIS...

Which unfolded into...

She loved it. I used the New Look 6613 View E pattern in size 7, because she wears a girls' 6x, but it ended up being very large, so I had to take it in quite a bit. Here's the back view...

She was so excited to pose for me.

And twirl for me.

You might have also noticed the adorable matching pleated headband she's wearing.

I think this might be my new favorite type of headband. I originally found the tutorial over at Craftiness is Not Optional, but I changed it up a bit.

So, overall, I'm pretty happy with the final product, as is the beautiful birthday girl.

Pig Pull 2011

So, I've been working on quite a few projects since my last post (which was FOREVER ago, I know) that I was super excited to share. I took plenty of pictures (about 400) and sat down to import them to my computer. Then...

I. LOST. ALL. OF. THEM.

I know, right? I completely freaked out. But what's done is done, so I apologize for not being able to share those projects with you. :o(

On the brighter side of things, this past weekend was the annual Barr Family Pig Pull. My father's best friend since, oh, I dunno, the beginning of time, is a Matt Barr--we call him Uncle Matt. Every year since as far back as I can remember, his family hosts a ginormous, themed pig roast. This year's theme?
